VOLUNTEERING

Become a Volunteer

The project is both interesting and challenging. We are confident that anyone who takes time to learn just a little about the scale and impact of the war will be encouraged to play a part in the project.

Having achieved all of our initial Heritage Lottery funded activities in time for the Centenary of the outbreak of the war, we were successful in a  further application to the Heritage Lottery Fund which will now allow us to expand the coverage of the project to other parts of the current borough of North Tyneside with the aim of producing a comprehensive resource for all of our communities today. This programme of work will be finalised over summer 2018.

Future activities

A new project to examine the history of the 18th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers (First Tyneside Pioneers) will begin in autumn 2018. This project will examine the story of the battalions officers and men who served from 1914 to 1919 and the post-war lives of the survivors.

Participation in this project is an opportunity to learn about how to access the sources of information and archive records which have been the focus of our work over the last five years. This knowledge may be useful for the future should you wish to pursue any private interest which requires knowledge of the research data available at local and national sources.

If you wish to learn more about how to volunteer to assist in the programme of events, please contact us.
